I have Honda Ellte envy...advice sought

Postby HelloPitty on Mon Nov 09, 2015 9:57 am

I sure have been admiring the Honda Elite bikes lately.
I'm thinking I may want to start looking for one.
My question is are there certain years that I should be aware of that I should not consider? I only ask because with the Metropolitans, there were certain years with restrictors which I would prefer to avoid.
Any help or pointers are appreciated.

As far as I know there were no such variables making one or another Elite model more or less desirable. They were all good bikes of their vintage. Elites came in different engine sizes. The biggest was 150cc, but they may have even sold one size bigger, maybe a 250? I rode an old Elite 150 that a friend owned way back. One hand brake on the left side, foot brake under your right heel, on the floorboard. All the old ones had carburetors, I'm pretty sure. Parts will be hard to find. May lose its charm quickly. Be careful what you wish for.

The newer Elite 110, better know as Honda NHX110, was imported into the US only in one model year, 2010. I bought mine in 2011. Fabulous scoot. Fuel injected, water cooled, ridiculously peppy and responsive for street riding, deep under-seat storage, thrifty fuel consumption, gratifying reliability. Came in black or red. Still a few available new if you look hard or find one gently used.

Since you didn't make it clear which Elite you desire, one of the oldies, or the last model brought to the US, I could only respond as I did. All Elites are good bikes. The older the one you buy, the more maintenance challenges you take on. But the heart wants what the heart wants...hope you find it.

Thanks GizmoGal for your input.
I am thinking I might want one of the older ones, but that 2010 model does sound intriguing.
I'm in the tire kicking stage, trying to do some research, ask questions etc. before I enter a serious WTB situation.

Here's a thread you might enjoy to read. There are several Elite 110 owners here besides me, and these posts may capture the bike's best features and how much those owners love it.

If you want a really good forum of devotion to many bikes and the one definitive discussion of NHX110, go here:
http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/h ... te.941321/
If you rode one, you'd want to own it.

And do read one of the most beautiful sagas of riding hard and fast in a Honda Elite 110 in the scooter Cannon Ball Run. A hugely challenging race for a bike of its size. I won't tell you how it fared; just read the account in The Journey of Solace. http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/j ... ce.980710/ Tough bike, ballsy rider, tender writer.

I'm not a big fan of the best older Elites so I can't refer you to archives of mechanics reports or owner memories about 'em. I have nothing against those scooters, just not any interest or affinity for them.

I've now read through all of those links, thanks GG! =D>
Since DaBinChe has posted so many useful maintenance videos on YouTube, I think when the time comes, I'll want a 2010 Honda Elite.

I am sure you will not regret that decision in favor of modernity. That 2010 Elite 110 will give you much practical satisfaction and fun riding it and I think it favorably compares to buying a more vintage Elite with significant limitations. If you own bikes for riding more than just listing you own them, then own and ride a bike of superb quality and versatility.

There are dealers in the US who have new NHX110s ready to ship or pick up. You get to start with a good bike and a Honda warranty. It will be a bit of a challenge to find used ones for sale worth driving to see. But still more worthy of the search than finding a 1985 Elite dead in a garage somewhere just so you can own it at last.

I'm glad you gave the time to read the threads I recommended. And that you are open minded to suggestions. Good luck locating one to buy. I always think the red ones are faster ;) , but that's not scientific. Get the color with the best deal when you find it.

Here you go, HelloPitty: don't know where you're located, but if you're in San Francisco, here's an NHX110 for sale, one of the extra fast red ones ;)

Say, I don't need any encouragement! :D =))

I actually did look at that one. Even secretly wished to do a fly and ride, how fun would that be!
I am trying to resist though and there's one even closer to me for a little less.

I do have a very capable scooter, my Vespa LX150 that I'm trying to make sure gets some love. Should I ever find a screaming deal I'll pounce, but for now I'll just look. I definitely like the 2010 version.

Understand completely. I will refrain from forwarding leads to scooters unless I know you're definitely ready to buy. Sorry to be pushy. Over abundance of enthusiasm, I guess... 8-}
Be happy riding that Vespa. Ride safe.

Well I was totally set on having a 2010 Elite as my next bike when my Uncle mentioned that he's going to sell his 2009 SYM HD200 Evo. Since I got the family discount I decided to go for it.

I actually like it very much.

***Update.
Still haven't found one, but I'm looking. I do see them for sale, but they are holding their value which is nice for the seller.
