Bustin, this is for you

Postby ronnath on Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:11 pm

In another thread I mentioned visiting my kid in your fair city last November and bitching about the rain and otherwise foul weather while I was there.

Here's an interesting little statistic for you to chew on:

The average annual rainfall for Seattle is just a tad over 37 inches.

So far this year (thru this morning) Des Moines has had 39.03 inches.

And to think that last November I was bitching to my kid about the lousy climate in your area. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I shall repair to my bottle of scotch and ponder the whole affair.

Bustin: Don't bust my chops over blizzards. I'll see your odd tsunami with two of my blizzards and raise you an outbreak of corn mold disease (don't ask).

:))

Oh , It's on like Donkey Kong .

I'll raise you half a dozen active volcanoes and a 9.0 earthquake .

Blizzards and tornadoes , sheesh.... child's play compared to gigantic mountains that literally explode. C'mon now.

Places like NYC, Miami ,and New Orleans get much more total annual rainfall than Seattle , on the average....but as any Puget Sounder will lament, it's the gray, overcast days with a slight mist or a few scattered showers , and absolutely no hint of sunshine whatsoever (about 200 per year) that really bring out the S.A.D. in many of us during the winter. Snow is rare enough that it's still kinda fun .... and we shut everything down ,drink Bailey's and Coffee , and have snowball fights when we get a little dusting of the white stuff that wouldn't even be acknowledged in the midwest , let alone earn the term "snowstorm" or "blizzard".

Pretty much perfect weather during our summers though... mid to upper 70s most days, a rare 90 degree day maybe once or twice a year , and just a spot of rain every couple weeks to keep everything nice and green and not on fire. But being as it didn't stop raining and warm up until after the summer solstice this year , saying it's just too short would be like saying that Hayden Fry's Hawkeyes had limited success in their Rose Bowl appearances.

seeing my bet with your volcanoes and earthquakes fought me to a draw.

but the Hayden Fry statistic brought me to my knees.

i'm waving the white flag.
