Met White Front Baskets - with photos!

Postby Smorris on Wed Oct 19, 2005 6:02 pm

(I know there are already three threads on the front basket, and they are in varied forums. I wanted to make sure this one was visibly titled with the white basket. If a mod wants to merge it with an existing thread, go right ahead.)

We went to the local Honda dealer Friday to order a Met front basket, but they didn't have the 2006 catalog yet. So Saturday we went to the next closest dealer, and they had the new catalog. They said they could order one for us, but I had doubts, hearing about the back orders here.

Well, they called today, and the white front basket was in! I went and picked it up after work.

It is definitely white! Not the off-white, eggshell, whatever of the Met. You'd think they could color match better. I was going to put it on for Deb, but I waited until she came home, and she says she'll keep the white. Even though it doesn't match well, it sorta disappears when you step away from the scoot a ways. Maybe we can paint it...

First two pics are using flash, and wash out the difference. Third photo is no flash, but under fluorescent lt makes everything a little yellower/greenish. I'll take pictures tomorrow in better lighting.

I'm not a fan of merged threads...

Some forums reach maturity and everything has been discussed... if there you just refer to old threads all the time you might as well lock the whole damn forum! ($0.02--) :D

I like the white, but not enough to switch it for the black basket we already have installed.

Steve, it would have been nice, like you said, if the basket matched the Met's cream or eggshell color better. Now maybe, you could paint that sucker a nice Kiwi color!

I love the idea of a colored, matching basket. I wonder if that krylon plastic paint would work?

Do you have the part number for the white basket? Maybe I'll have better luck ordering it instead of waiting for my black basket to get off of backorder.

I too like the idea of painting the basket to match your scooter as rodey said. The white would more easily paint than the black, I'd think. Be curious if anyone does this. The bright white against the eggshell or cream sure doesn't impress me.

Good idea! ;)

Honda Metropolitan Inner Basket - White
Part Number 08L51-GET-000 $40.00

We'll see if we can find some matching Krylon.

Where to get?

Postby magjm on Thu Nov 03, 2005 5:21 pm

I give up. Ordered the black basket at $40 and after 30 days order was cancelled by them. I want the white one so I can try the paint thing, but can't find a source and after my Internet search now find the black at $79. So where or who sells the white one?

Also, anyone find a nice red trunk to match the Salsa? I'd take a white one if it matched the Honda.

Thanks to anyone who has info.

They were $40 in the 2004 catalog, $80 in the 2005 catalog, and now $40 again in the 2006 catalog. There was an error, and people were getting them for $40.

I simply went to the local Honda place, ordered the above part number, and three days leter I picked it up! No shortage of parts in these parts.

I painted Deb's white basket with Rust-o-leum Satin from Home Depot that *perfectly* matched the eggshell of the Metropolitan. Unfortunately, after about an hour, it started crazing and getting really rough. Seems the paint didn't react well with the plasticized paint on the basket. Weather's been bad here since, but I'm going to try to sand it a bit and put on another coat. If that doesn't work, I'll take it in to work and either have the old paint burned off on the powder-coat line, or sand blast it off. Then start from scratch with a primer and the Rust-o-leum.

Thanks for the warning on the paint... Rust Oleum, though, has acetone in it. Maybe if one used one of the latex spray paints, all would be OK?

Well, I just ordered a white basket. Hopefully it comes soon. I still have a black one on back order.

Steve- thanks for keeping us posted on the progress of the paint job on the basket. I guess you (or Deb & her scoot, I should say) are the guinea pigs for this project.

Let us know what finally does the trick. I painted my Givi trunk to match my Vino with paint from an auto parts store & although it was a perfect match colorwise, it has started to peel in some spots. :(

I think I made a post about this in another thread before Steve got the basket. I was pondering whether or not the white basket might tend to get discolored over time?

it would be really cool if it kind of "yellowed" over time to actually match the eggshell color of the Met
