yes, and yes

pulled the chrome and rubbed off the snot. life is good.

i used steel wool to rub down the basket. a tip: don't follow my lead on the steel wool, it leaves lots of little threads and is a pain. i think emery cloth will do a better job. or maybe some very fine sandpaper. you don't have to go to bare metal, just lightly rough up the surface. in fact i wouldn't go to bare metal because it will need a primer coat. be sure to dust well after the roughing process.

the color looks really good. two coats, the second about an hour and a half after the first. the paint dries very fast - about 20 minutes. the can label recommends not handling the painted piece for a couple of hours but i pushed the envelope a bit. after the second coat i waited the two hours and remounted the basket - that was about four yesterday afternoon. the paint has had all night to harden up and i'll stick on the new chrome this morning.

after the bling is back on, we'll get a photo posted.

KenRz; yep. scuff it up a little first with sandpaper or emery cloth. wipe off any dust. then primer it with the light colored primer. probably two coats (primer dries quickly). then hit it with the beige. again, two coats.

others might disagree with the two coat recommendation. but i'm an old woodworker and we get anal about finish coats and such.

couldn't find a photo of ace hardware primer, but this will do.

Ron--the basket with the chrome finish looks super. Pimposity at it's best ;)

Nice job and now, would you want to ride your Met to Colorado and do some finishing touches on my Met? LOL

Our inner basket arrived 2 days after ordering it. My daughter was so excited, she went and picked up the paint and we had it ready for installation same day.
Here are a couple pic's of the complete installation.

I have a few black baskets on order as well - if there is any problem getting them, I'll let you all know.

What paint did you end up using again?

wow, a four year old thread coming back to haunt me :D

here's the paint i used. if you don't have an ace hardware close by, the important part is the color. i suppose there are any number of brands available.

(the primer was just an all purpose light gray - available most anywhere)
