I ride a stella 4T and use armor...
FF helmet, Fox sport knee/shin under jeans (loose/relaxed fit), Fox sport elbows, boots..
in 2011 I took a spill on a heavy cruiser (honda 1100 ace) about 30' from my front door while leaving, my neighbor cut the corner (distracted, chatting with sister) and hit me head on, (me < 3mph, her 15 mph)...wearing full cruiser leathers (FF helmet, jacket, chaps,etc...) resulted in a tibial plateau fracture (chaps ARE NO PROTECTION AGAINST IMPACT!) that didn't heal correctly after being laid up for 9 months non-weight bearing, now I'm facing a knee replacement...
Hard armor, always...pavement doesn't care how big a ride you have or how bad ass you look or how fast your going or how long you've been riding...it only takes once to ruin your life.
