6'4" handlebar or seat modifications

Postby dougisan on Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:19 am

Hello to any of you with experience with being tall. I would like to know if modifications can be made to raise the Handlebars to fit my legs on the 2002 Honda Metropolitan I recently acquired. There must be some aftermarket product or ingenious ideas people are aware of. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You could get some pegs. I am 6'1" and my knees used to hit the hadle bars and honk my horn a lot. Installed some pegs problem solved. I tried to post a picture a ton of times but it kept getting clipped. You can see pictures here though.

Nice rebuild! Where do you get the foot pegs? It would be nice to get a different handle bar that would swing up enough that my knees would fit under when I was driving.

Who can recommend aftermarket suppliers for Met II parts?

Here's one to start with:
http://www.bikebandit.com/
When you get to the homepage and click on OEM parts,to get to the parts list for your scooter, you will need to know that your 2002 Met II is is model CHF50P. If you register on the site you can keep the year and model on file and just go right to it for all queries and purhcaess on that site in future.

I sincerely doubt if you will find the type of handlebars you seek to accomodate your frame, but Ihope yu find a solution. Your little MEt II will really work hard to carry a big guy like you, so don't expect much. If you don't fit on the bike, be sure to be extra careful when riding--you don't want your knee to do something your brain would say no to! Beeping the horn is the least of it.

Also, you may find you can help yourself quickly with ideas you want to look into by using the Search feature on this forum. Many questions you might have as a new owner have likely been asked and answered already, and you can learn a lot from previous posts.

Thanks man I have put alot of time and effort into making my MET II where it is now. I think the pegs were actually made for a bicycle. Not sure if you will find a set of bars that will just bolt on but with a little enginuity you can make anything work. Good luck. I would be nice to see another modded Met

Where did you attach the pegs? There is a black plastic shroud where you placed the pegs. If you could give me a few hints it would help. Thanks

I took off the all the plastic first. Then I had to drill a whole in the frame to attach the pegs. Then I cut a hole out of the black plastic so the pegs had some where to go through. Then I tightened them up. This was a huge pain in the ass but well worth it. It created a way more comfortable riding stance and now I don't hit my knees.

Bought Mongoose pegs at Target for $10 then bought some grade 8 bolts from lowes for $5. Cut em down so they don't scrape. Biggity Bam, snootchy boochies!
