2006 Metro starts for 1 second

Postby Metro2006 on Sat Sep 16, 2017 9:05 am

I bought a used 2006 Metro that has been sitting for 5 years. I replaced the battery, spark plug, fuel filter and cleaned the carb as well as soaked it in Chemi dip. In addition I drained the gas tank, flushed it and put fresh gas in the tank. The scooter will start for approx. 1 second and then stops. I thought this might be a gas related situation so I made a make shift gas tank from a water bottle to try to eliminate the possibility of the actual gas tank being the issue. Nothing has changed. If I let the scooter sit for 20-30 minutes after I get it to start it will start again for 1 second. If I try to start it immediately after it runs for 1 second it will not start? Could this be electrical? I am open to any and all suggestion on things to try. I feel that I might be missing something that is proprietary to Honda. I'm so close... has any one ever had the same issue?

See this thread linked below. A guy with your same name posted stuff just like this, practically identical wording for the same problem!
So is it deja vu or coincidence!

A new and knowledgeable member posted something that may help you. If your scooter is still misbehaving as far as starting and running, read this recent thread.

This happened to me as well after I broke it down and replaced almost everything turns out I had to do a valve adjustment.

And I thought oh boy that is way above my head I am no Honda cert. tech. I might as well buy a new scoot. But turns out that it is pretty simple. Just needed to buy feeler gauges and a shim kit and then check where they are spoused to be at and go from there. If you search there is a YouTube out there on how to do this

Valve clearance too. I always lump that in with maintenance. Everyone knows to change their engine oil, but you also should change your gear oil, check and/or replace your roller weights, and check valve clearance every so often.
